FULL LIST OF EDITORIAL PICKS: BEST BUSINESS CREDIT CARDS

Click the card name to read our review. Before applying, confirm details on the issuer’s website.
Best for: Overall business credit card
The
American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card

$0
annual fee. Learn more and apply.
Best for: Cash back — bonus categories
If your business's spending matches the bonus categories on the
Ink Business Cash® Credit Card
, you can rack up some serious cash back. (If not, then look elsewhere.) There's an excellent sign-up bonus for a no-annual-fee cash-back card, plus an introductory APR period for purchases. Learn more and apply.
Best for: Cash back — flat-rate rewards + no annual fee
The
Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card
earns a simple, flat cash-back rate on every purchase, with no limit on how much you can earn. The sign-up bonus is outstanding for a cash-back card, particularly one with no annual fee, and there's an intro APR period for purchases. Learn more and apply.
Best for: Cash back — heavy spenders
The
Capital One Spark Cash Plus
is an excellent option for business operators whose expenses don't fall into the bonus categories on other business credit cards. You get a high, flat rewards rate on every purchase, with no limit to how much you can earn. And you can earn an extra welcome bonus, and qualify for an annual bonus, if you hit certain spending requirements. Just make sure that you can pay off your spending in full each month, as this is a charge card that doesn't let you revolve a balance. Learn more and apply.
Best for: Overall travel rewards + big sign-up offer
The
Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card
starts you off with one of the biggest sign-up bonuses of any credit card anywhere (assuming you spend enough to earn it), then gives you bonus rewards in common business spending categories. Points are worth 25% more when redeemed for travel booked through Chase, or you can transfer them to about a dozen airline and hotel partners. Learn more and apply.
Best for: Travel rewards — flat-rate rewards
The
Capital One Spark Miles for Business
is basically a business version of the popular
Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card
. You earn 5 miles per dollar on hotels and car rentals booked through Capital One Travel and 2 miles per dollar on all other purchases. Miles can be redeemed at a value of 1 cent apiece for any travel purchase, without the blackout dates and other restrictions of branded hotel and airline cards. The card offers a great sign-up bonus, too. Learn more and apply.
Best for: Travel rewards — luxury rewards and perks
Like the consumer version of this card,
The Business Platinum Card® from American Express
comes with a big annual fee. But business travelers who prefer to go in style will find plenty that appeals to them: high rewards on certain travel purchases, bonus rewards on larger non-travel purchases, a superb newcomer welcome offer, extensive airport lounge access, elite hotel status, hundreds of dollars a year in available credits and a list of perks as long as your arm. It's not cheap, but luxury never is. Terms apply. Learn more and apply.
Best for: Travel rewards — no annual fee
This is the business version of the issuer's excellent no-annual-fee travel card. The
Bank of America® Business Advantage Travel Rewards World Mastercard® credit card
pays solid rewards on every purchase and gives you wide flexibility in redeeming your points for any travel purchase, without the restrictions of branded airline and hotel cards. Learn more and apply.
Best for: Intro APR + AmEx points
The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express
is a near-twin to the
American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card
, with one key difference: Rather than cash back, it pays you in AmEx Membership Rewards points. Learn more and apply.
Best for: 0% intro APR
The
U.S. Bank Business Triple Cash Rewards World Elite Mastercard®
is a solid cash-back card for business owners.
Earn 3% cash back on eligible purchases at gas stations, office supply stores, cell phone service providers and restaurants. Earn 1% cash back on all other eligible net purchases
. Plus, the card offers a competitive welcome bonus and
0% intro APR for 15 billing cycles on purchases and balance transfers, and then the ongoing APR of 18.99%-27.99% Variable APR
— all with a $
0
annual fee. Learn more and apply.
Best for: Airline business credit card
The
United℠ Business Card
is a stand-out option for frequent business flyers, particularly those loyal to United. Cardholders earn rewards on everyday spending, like dining, gas stations and transit. A sign-up bonus, plus no annual fee for the first year, sweeten the pot. Learn more and apply.
Best for: Airline business credit card with lounge access
If your business has you on the road a lot, you'll appreciate the airport lounge access on the
Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card
, which includes both Delta's own Sky Clubs and American Express's Centurion Lounges when flying Delta. The annual companion certificate — which is good even in first class — and the checked-bag benefit add considerable value, too. Terms apply. Learn more and apply.
Best for: Hotel business credit card (overall)
The Hilton Honors American Express Business Card
is an outstanding small-business hotel credit card — though a little unusual. It comes with rich ongoing rewards, automatic elite status with Hilton and 10 free visits to select airport lounges each year (a rare perk for hotel cards). Rather than automatically granting a free night each year, like most hotel cards with annual fees, you have to spend at least $15,000 per calendar year to earn a free weekend night. Terms apply. Learn more and apply.
Best for: Hotel business card for free nights, flexible rewards
The
Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card
can pay for itself just with the automatic free night's stay every year. Add in automatic elite status, generous rewards, a dandy welcome offer and more, and it's hard to go wrong. Terms apply. Learn more and apply.
Best for: Hotel business card for sign-up bonus, free nights
The
IHG® Rewards Premier Business Credit Card
is a must-have if you frequent hotels under the InterContinental Hotel Group umbrella (Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Kimpton and Intercontinental, to name a few). This card has a killer welcome bonus, a free anniversary night, automatic elite status and a slew of other travel-friendly perks. Learn more and apply.
Best for: Corporate card (no personal guarantee)
The
Ramp Card
is easier to obtain than other corporate cards, which often require annual revenue in the millions. Ramp is available to incorporated businesses that have strong revenue and at least $75,000 in a business bank account. There's no personal guarantee or credit check. Plus, Ramp offers unlimited cash-back rewards and card-level spending controls with no annual fee. Learn more and apply.
Best for: Fair credit
The
Capital on Tap Business Credit Card
offers
1.5
% cash back on all purchases, no annual fee and the potential for a low APR. And it's available to business owners with fair credit:
Capital on Tap Business Credit Card
says applicants with a FICO score of 670 or higher have the best chance of approval. One important note: This card is not available to sole proprietors, which excludes the majority of businesses. Learn more and apply.
Best for: Cash back: Large purchases
Chase's newest business credit card pays you more for big purchases:
Earn unlimited 2.5% total cash back on purchases of $5,000 or more and unlimited 2% cash back on all other business purchases. Earn unlimited 5% total cash back on travel purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards.
There's also a generous welcome bonus.
Earn $1,000 bonus cash back after you spend $10,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
Learn more and apply.
Best for: Generous rewards with no personal guarantee
The
Brex Card
doesn't require a personal credit check and business owners can apply with an EIN only. There's also no personal guarantee. Instead, Brex determines creditworthiness by evaluating a company's cash balance, spending patterns and investors. The Brex card also offers a decent welcome bonus, earns ongoing rewards and offers direct intregration with popular accounting and bookkeeping software. Learn more and apply.

Compare interest rates on our best business credit cards

The interest rate on your business credit card is an important factor to consider when comparing business cards. Rates have risen steadily over the past year, moving in step with the federal funds rate, increasing costs for business owners who carry a balance.
Most business cards offer an APR range; you need excellent credit (typically a FICO score above 720) to secure the lowest rate. Charge cards like
Capital One Spark Cash Plus
and
Brex Card
don't advertise an APR range because these cards require the balance to be paid in full each month.

Why get a business credit card?

A business card is a great tool to separate your business and personal finances and establish your business credit history. When you use the card only for business spending, its interest and fees can be tax-deductible business expenses. And business credit cards offer rewards, perks and bonuses that rival (and in many cases surpass) those on consumer credit cards.

Who can get a small-business credit card?

Everyone from a CEO to a gig worker can apply for a small-business credit card. You don't need to be incorporated or have a formal business structure, like an LLC or partnership. Freelancers, independent contractors and other sole proprietors (i.e., self-employed folks) can apply for a small-business credit card to help manage business-related expenses, earn rewards and grow their enterprise.

How to get a business credit card

Applying for a business credit card is pretty straightforward. Business credit card applications typically ask for the following:
  • Business name. No formal business name? Just use your name.
  • Business contact information. If you don't have a separate business address and phone number, don't sweat it. Your personal address and phone number are just fine.
  • Employer identification number or Social Security number.
  • Industry. This can be a broad category like retail, medical or professional services, or something more specific. If you're stumped, think about the service you provide. Drive for Uber? That's transportation. DoorDash or Grubhub? That's delivery.
  • Business type. Corporation, LLC, partnership or sole proprietorship. Businesses without a formal or legal business structure can choose “sole proprietor.”
  • Time in business, revenue and expenses.
  • Personal guarantee. Virtually all small-business credit card applications require a personal guarantee. This means you’re personally responsible for the balance on your business card even if your company goes belly up. Want to avoid the personal guarantee? Look to a corporate card like Ramp or Brex.
Business credit cards, like consumer cards, consider your personal credit history to determine approval, interest rates and credit limits. Applying for a business card may ding your personal credit score, but only a little and only for a short time. If your personal credit history is thin or poor, bad-credit business credit cards are available.
How long does it take to get a business credit card? While some business credit cards advertise near-instant approval, you may need to wait a couple of weeks for your card if your credit isn't excellent.

Types of business credit cards

Earn 1% to 5% cash back on business spending.
Some cards offer higher rewards in certain categories (office supplies, for example). Others earn a flat rate on all purchases.
Best for: Most businesses.
Rack up points or miles to redeem on future travel.
Travel cards often include perks like lounge access, free hotel stays and statement credits for Global Entry.
Best for: Road warriors and frequent flyers.
Secured cards require a security deposit, which acts as your credit limit.
Use a secured business card to build your business credit history.
Best for: Business owners with bad personal credit.
Approval is based on your business financials, not your personal credit, and cards do not require a personal guarantee.
Only available to corporations and often require millions in revenue.
Best for: Corporations with substantial cash reserves.

How to get the most out of your business credit card

Pay with your credit card whenever possible

For entrepreneurs who pay in full every month and don't overspend, using a rewards credit card for everything makes those points, miles or cash back add up fast. Avoid paying with a credit card when a convenience charge is added, if possible.

Lock down that sign-up bonus

To get your card's sign-up bonus, you typically need to make a few thousand dollars' worth of purchases in the first few months after opening the account. Check your card's terms and track your spending to make sure you don’t miss out.

Know when your introductory 0% APR ends

Read your credit card statements and make a note of when your promotional offer expires to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Deduct interest and fees on your taxes

If you’re using your card for business costs only, fees and interest count as business expenses. That means you can deduct them at tax time.
